# Wu (Hao) style

**武式太极拳**

A centred and economical style, suited to a gradual and refined understanding of Tai Ji Quan's internal work.

The **Wu** style (武式太极拳) allows beginners to develop sensations very quickly. Within a few weeks, they may feel warmth in their hands or arms, which can be a valuable motivation to continue. The movements are carefully designed to explore expansion (pushing) and contraction (pulling).

This style is economical: reducing the movement can create greater accumulation. Master Jung studied with Master **Wang MuYin**, the sixth successor in the lineage. It is a complete style and one of the three major Tai Ji traditions, while also providing an excellent foundation for studying other styles.

Wu style Tai Ji Quan, also known as Hao style Tai Ji Quan, dates from the Qing dynasty and was founded by Master **Wu Yu-xiang** in Yongnian, Hebei. His theoretical and practical contribution greatly influenced Tai Ji Quan as a whole.

Wu Yu-xiang discovered Wang Zhong-yue's major work on Tai Ji Quan, which had been lost until then. This became the starting point for a new synthesis combining the styles of **Chang Qing-Ping** and **Yang Lu-chan**. Wu style is therefore essential for anyone wishing to study the origins of Tai Ji Quan.
