## Tai Ji Quan

**Tai Chi Chuan** (or **Tai Ji Quan**) is an internal martial art: it seeks to develop strength through the circulation of energy (**Qi**). This strength also supports the body and health, which is why it is sometimes called the art of long life.

The practice is characterised by slow and supple movements. They may look gentle, but every gesture remains a technique with a concrete martial application. **Qi** follows Yi: understanding the martial meaning supports a balanced circulation of energy.

Learning is progressive. Learning the form, relaxing the body and sensing energy are connected goals that take time. At CAMC, the Wu style of the Hao family is particularly suited to this progression.

**Tai Ji Quan** styles at CAMC

- **Wu Shi Taiji Quan** (Wu style of the Hao family): the orthodox Wu form
- **Yang Shi Da Jia** (Yang style): forms from Yang Cheng-Fu and Fu Zhong-Wen
- **Chen Shi Taiji Quan** (Chen style): Chen Fake's traditional **Laojia** and **Feng Zhiqiang**'s form

## Styles taught

At CAMC, study progresses through three major traditions: Wu/Hao, Yang and Chen.

[**Wu (Hao) style** 武式太极拳 A centred, precise style that quickly develops a feel for internal principles.](https://www.kungfufrance.com/en/tai-ji-qi-gong/wu-hao) [**Yang style** 杨式太极拳 The most widely practised form, expansive and fluid, ideal for developing continuity.](https://www.kungfufrance.com/en/tai-ji-qi-gong/yang) [**Chen style** 陈式太极拳 A historic style with changes of rhythm, explosive work and demanding physical requirements.](https://www.kungfufrance.com/en/tai-ji-qi-gong/chen)

## Qi Gong

**Qi Gong** (**Qigong**) is a Chinese health practice whose essential principles aim to relax the body and calm the mind. The term means working with energy through the body and relies on regular practice.

It requires personal effort, determination and continuous attention. It helps reduce stress-related tension and fatigue, support digestion and restore everyday vitality.

**Qi Gong** is accessible at any age and almost anywhere: at home, while travelling or during a break. It requires no special equipment, only comfortable clothing.

**Qi Gong** mainly includes

- **Dao Yin** or **Do In**: self-massage, breathing, stretching, mobility and relaxation
- Energy practices: apparently simple movements requiring concentration and full attention

### CAMC programme

#### Dao Yin or Do In

- Upper-body self-massage and lower-limb exercises
- Seated movements to correct the spine, strengthen the organs and improve breathing
- **Fang Song Gong**: stretching, mobility and strengthening focused on relaxation
- Relaxation (lying **Zhuang Gong**) for physical and mental ease

#### Energy practices

- **Tong Maek Gong**: circulating Qi through the meridians and gathering energy
- **Cun Si Fa**: concentration exercises from Taoist practices
- **Wu Xing Gong Fa**: the Five Animals form
- Seven Stars walking: practical walking movements from **Ba Gua Qi Gong**
